FIRE EXPLORERS

The Kingston Springs Fire Department is proud of it Fire Explorer Post.  This program is offered to ages 15 through 17 years of age.   Upon turning 18, the Explorer may become a regular firefighter without any probationary status.

TRAINING

Regular training meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month beginning at 7:30 at the Main Firehall.  Special trainings and practice burns are scheduled several times a year.  Task Forces schedule their own meetings to accomodate different schedules. New firefighters can progress at their own pace with a well-structured training plan that involves the help of most of the firefighters.   Medical First Responder Training is encouraged and fully paid for by the Department.  Hazmat, River Rescue and Rappelling classes and certification are offered periodically.

This Fire Department prides itself in its level of training and was the first all-volunteer department in the State of Tennessee to achieve an ISO rating of 5, which is its current rating.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

The main firehall is located downtown in the City Hall Complex at Main and Spring Street.  The triple bay facility houses the following equipment:

    1992 GMC Rescue Mini Pumper

1987 Ford Custom Rescue Support Unit

    1988 E-One Custom Fire Engine

    1980 FMC Fire Engine

    1975 GMC Fire Pumper/Tanker

    1970 Chevrolet Fire Tanker

The department has just expanded its fleet with the purchase of an aerial pumper.

Station #2 was completed in 1999 and is located adjacent to the Middle School and High School complex on Kingston Springs Road.  Station #3 was completed in 2002 and is located on Mt. Pleasant Road.  These stations are 2 bay construction with no living quarters.

The Main Firehall has sleeping quarters which are presently leased to the Cheatham County Ambulance Service.  A large training room and offices are also at this location.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

The Kingston Springs Volunteer Fire Department enjoys it reputation for community involvement.  Annually the Department sponsors the arrival of Santa Claus to town, and provides the community with other seasonal events such as an Easter Egg Hunt, and Fall Weinie Roast and bonfire.  The Department sponsors Fire Prevention Week through the Elementary School.  CPR classes to the public are available through the department.

Firefighters and their families enjoy social events sponsored by the department.   A summer picnic and Christmas banquet for the whole family unites the extended members of this family.

The Department holds its annual Awards Banquet in the early Spring for Firefighters and spouses.  Special awards, promotions and commendations are presented for accomplishments and rank achievement.

The REINFORCEMENTS

WB01430_.gif (6251 bytes)

The Reinforcements is a group of volunteers that is available to offer different services to the activities of the Volunteer Fire Department. Not only does the Fire Department provide emergency fire and rescue services to area residents, but during the year several community events are held to help maintain the small town atmoshpere and preserve the unity of the community. The reinforcements help with arrangements for these events. These include a Weenie Roast, Easter Egg Hunt, and Open House with Santa.

The Reinforcements also has members who are willing to donate their time and/or equipment to emergencies, such as weather related events.

Members of The Reinforcements are solicited to donate one to two hours per year doing something that they enjoy for any one of the events. There is even the choice to donate supplies instead of time. There are no meetings or officers. Information on volunteers is kept on computer and members are called prior to the event they volunteered for. This method allows people to participate as a volunteer and get involved in the community at the level that they truly can give.

The MOBILE SUPPORT SERVICE works differently than the basic services of the Reinforcements and requires a higher level of commitment. Volunteers willing to commit to this service are placed on a permanent team.  They attend large fire and lengthy rescue events and provide food and beverages and other support services.
